We’re no strangers to carrying out renovations and refurbishments on Grade II listed homes. There are a number of really strict guidelines that need to be adhered to when you’re working on a listed building in order to preserve its original features.
This beautiful, Grade II listed home is located in the heart of the Suffolk village of Orford. Located on the banks of the River Ore and with Henry II’s castle and a Grade I listed church nearby, this was a really exciting commission.
This property had already undergone some renovations throughout, but the exterior and outbuildings were in desperate need of more work. Being a listed home, special craftsmen, materials, and skills needed to be sourced in order to maintain the existing features.
Our wealth of knowledge and extensive experience when it comes to refurbishments meant that we were able to offer a highly professional, competent service at prices that didn’t cost the earth.
Exterior
The siding was beginning to lift from the exterior of the buildings, and in some places, the insulation was beginning to show through. In addition to this, some of the exterior walls had large holes in them which exposed the interior of the building to the elements.
All of this damage was repaired and new siding was installed. We also fitted new doors internally and externally, alongside brand-new windows. The result is that the outbuildings now have a fresh and updated look and are beautiful living spaces that are perfect for hosting guests.
Interior
The interiors of both outbuildings were in desperate need of work to make them not only liveable but to bring them into the 21st century as well.
When we started the work the spaces were dirty, unfinished, and boarded up with wooden boards in some instances. We installed new windows and floors throughout and also updated and modernised all of the lighting.
We also plastered and painted all of the interior walls, and upgraded the kitchen area with a brand new tile backsplash, sink, and cabinets.
Maintaining the original design
Throughout the project we were able to retain the original design elements of the property and enhance them, instead of erasing them. The outcome is a blend of original or traditional features combined with a contemporary, modern design.
The original outbuildings have been transformed and given a new lease of life without compromising the feel of the property or making them appear as if they were an afterthought.
